Good results for Team SCRC @ Plymouth

Sunday 12th June was the 3rd round of the SWORDS 2016 series, held at Plymouth RC. Its an astro turf track but still a million miles away from what we are used to at SCRC. A bumpy affair with lots of jumps and other features, including a very tricky chicane. Myself (Rob W), Phil Sawkins, Jeff Humby, Steve Hamilton and Kelvin Tate all made the trip down to Devon to represent the club and I can say on behalf of us all, that despite the weather, we had a fantastic day. A great track which was immense fun to drive.

In the ebuggy class myself and Jeff were up against some fast drivers. The first heat didn't go so well for me, waiting to exit the pit lane I pressed the loud pedal and reversed into the car behind! I'd recently swapped ESCs and had forgotten to set the throttle calibration and make sure the motor was wired correctly!! I missed half the ten minute practice while I sorted it, but sort it I did, managing a quickest lap of 35.5s (dropping to 34s by the end of the day). Jeff got the full ten minutes but was struggling with car set up, especially the front end.

The track was a little wetter for the nitro boys but they were having fun sliding around trying to find the line and the grip. Kelvin struggled with some technical difficulties and Steve struggled with trying to Marshal and compete in the buggy and truggy races!

Kelvin's issues meant he only made the C Final but he is rapidly getting a reputation as a bump up king! Getting the bump to the B final and then to the A! Finishing in a fantastic 5th place overall!

The electric final was split into two 12 minute finals, I qualified 2nd on the grid with Jeff in 7th. Jeff gained a place finishing 6th in both finals. I fared better getting a 2nd and a 4th.

Overall a great date and super track, as always very well run by Jonathan Firmin. The next round is back at SCRC so see you all there on the 10th July.
